Master's and Doctorate Program
General information about admission
The selection and ranking of candidates for granting scholarships takes place twice a year, typically in the months of May to July (for admission in the middle of the year) and October to December (for admission at the beginning of the following year). Both the selection of candidates and the classification for the award of scholarships are carried out through performance in the Unified Examination of Physics Graduate Programs (EUF), analysis of curriculum, academic transcript, cover letter and motivation of the candidate, and letters of recommendation (issued by the candidate's former teachers/advisors), as detailed in each selection notice.
To complete the application, all documents (listed in the public notice) must be scanned (in pdf format) and sent via the electronic registration system, as informed in the selection notice.
ATTENTION: documents sent in a manner different from that indicated in the notice will be disregarded.
Enrollment in the selection process for the PPG-Physics/UFABC
The full application basically involves three steps:
I. Acceptance by an advisor
It is mandatory for the candidate to contact one of the accredited advisors in advance and obtain the acceptance of a supervisor to enroll in the selection process of the PPG-Physics/UFABC. The candidate must indicate the name of the advisor on the electronic application form. It is recommended that the candidate schedule a visit or telephone conversation (or via the internet) with the intended advisor(s) as soon as possible. The list of advisors accredited in PPG-Physics can be found on the Advisors link. The advisor who accepts the student must send an email confirming interest in guiding the candidate.
II. Sending documents
The interested student must send the required documents, as instructed in the notice and application form. This process is done via an electronic form, available on the page of the Dean of Graduate Studies at UFABC, where the candidate will fill in all the necessary data, as well as attach the required documentation. In the Enrollment process, the student must indicate his EUF enrollment number and the date of completion of the same, or attach a copy of the EUF e-mail informing the score obtained in the entrance exam, if the result has already been published.
III. Sending letters of recommendation
Two letters of recommendation are required for registration, which must be sent by evaluators who have had some professional/academic relationship with the candidate, such as former advisors, professors, etc. Letters of recommendation must be sent directly by the evaluator who recommends the student, by email, according to the instructions in the notice. The model to be followed for the letters of recommendation can be found here.
Notes:
- The instrumental knowledge of the English language (i.e. reading and understanding of technical texts) is essential for the student to take a postgraduate course in physics.
- The original documentation, or certified copy, must be presented by the selected candidates at the time of registration.
- Enrollment will only be effective after all documents are presented, including the diploma or proof of completion of the undergraduate course (for the master's) and master's degree (for the doctorate if the candidate has taken a master's degree).
Course Registration
Enrollments follow a calendar published along with the result of the selection specified on the program page. More information about enrollment can be obtained directly on the page of the Dean of Graduate Studies at UFABC and at the Office of Graduate Studies..

ADMISSION TO THE DOCTORATE IN CONTINUOUS FLOW
The PPG-Physics/UFABC may offer, via a specific public notice, a selection for admission in a continuous flow in the doctoral course, for students who choose not to receive a scholarship from the institutional quota of the Program.
This selection is intended for candidates with excellent academic prospects, who already have a well-defined research project, written in collaboration with one of the professors accredited in the Program, who accepts to act as advisor and submits a proposal to open the public notice to the coordination of the PPG. It is also expected that this candidate will obtain, via an individual project submitted to a funding agency, a scholarship to enable his/her full dedication to this research project. If the candidate chooses not to receive a scholarship, he must prove availability of time compatible with the execution of a research project in physics of excellence for his doctorate.
Enrollment in this selection process can be done at any time, following the rules of the public notice in force after its opening, and if the candidate is approved, his effective enrollment in the Program must follow the regular enrollment schedule of the UFABC Graduate Programs. . New public notices can be opened upon demand from accredited advisors.
- At the moment there is no public notice for admission to the doctorate in continuous flow.
Previous Notices:
- Admission Notice to the Doctorate in Continuous Flow (2014-2 validity 6 months) - Published in Service Bulletin 400, of 05 September 2014
SPECIAL STUDENTS
The PPG-Physics/UFABC may offer, via a specific public notice, a selection for the enrollment of students outside the program in the disciplines offered every four months. If you are interested, pay attention to the notices or contact the coordination at ppg.fisica@ufabc.edu.br
