The Graduate Program in Physics @ UFABC

The Graduate Program in Physics at UFABC has a level of academic excellence, its faculty consisting of professors who conduct research in recent and dynamic areas, and who publish regularly in top international journals. Another feature of UFABC is the interdisciplinarity, which pervades its curriculum and academic structure. It is for example very simple for a student to take courses from other Graduate Programs at UFABC as part of their training.

The UFABC lies in the region named as “ABC Paulista”, right besides São Paulo, the largest cultural center in Brazil and one of the largest cities in the world. The ABC region is dynamic, was the cradle of industrialization of the country and still has a strong potential for innovation. The UFABC is one of the newest universities in the country and, being only six years old, already has a prominent position in international rankings that analyze the impact of its research.

The UFABC counts with a supercomputer and other first-line resources for computational research, so that the student will be fully able to develop his research work even if it requires large computational capacity. The student will have access to modern research laboratories, with a strong interdisciplinary character - many equipment are shared with students from other areas, providing an environment of constant exchange of knowledge, in line with the interdisciplinarity that is the hallmark of the UFABC.

The professors of the Graduate Program in Physics maintain collaboration with several researchers in Brazil and worldwide, paving the way for the student to conduct visits, internships, or even spend part of his PhD abroad. The proximity to several major universities such as USP, IFT-UNESP, UNICAMP, for example, also facilitates interaction with other research groups. In addition, the city of São Paulo is in a strategic position in the country, with various events taking place in its vicinity.

Finally, the students of the PPG-FIS may be granted a full scholarship, allowing them to dedicate full time to their academic studies and research project.
